Privacy Policy

Smartcard Marketing Systems, Inc. (SMS) understands its responsibility to protect the privacy of all its users, whether they are eyecare professionals or current or potential patients. SMS will do its best to provide high standards of privacy appropriate to each of these groups. Personal health and practice information is precious, and demands the highest level of privacy for those who choose to share that information.

All Users
SMS makes it easy for all users to find, read and understand our privacy policies, which include:

User Collection Information Disclosure
SMS may on occasion seek information about its users to allow for easier identification and data entry. This information will never be shared with anyone outside of SMS without first getting your permission. In addition, on the rare occasions when we will ask for your permission, you must opt in to approve the sharing of it.

Collection or Use of Aggregate Data
SMS will on occasion report to its investors and other interested parties aggregate data. This is data collected from individuals or groups of individuals. We promise to process this information so that no uniquely identifiable information about an individual can ever be distributed to an outside party.

Access to Personal Information Collected by SMS and Provided to Unrelated Third Parties
SMS will never share your personal or patient information with any outside party, related or unrelated, without your specific, opt-in, consent.

HIPAA Compliance- SMS complies and will continue to comply with all HIPAA regulations to which it is subject.  All participating Eye Care Providers will be supplied with a HIPAA Business Associate Contract, according to HIPAA rules.

E-mail Newsletters
If you or your patients sign up for a SMS newsletter, you will be asked to provide certain information about yourself, such as your e-mail address, your preferences for certain kinds of information, and other forms of demographic details. This data will never be shared with outside third parties, but will be used to provide you with a customized newsletter based upon your preferences. Some of the data will be aggregated to provide information to interested third parties. However, the data will be processed so that no uniquely identifiable information about an individual can ever be distributed to an outside party.

Eyecare Professional Users
As eyecare professionals and practitioners, you know how important it is to protect your privacy and that of your current or potential patients. SMS will do its best to provide you and your practice with the highest level of privacy, and to guard your patient information. Here's how it works:

Eligibility
Only qualified eyecare practices will be permitted to enter the professional section of the SMS site. Eyecare providers who are dispensing professionals must first register a user name and password with SMS in order to access the Web site’s “Professional” areas. This means, of course, that eyecare professional users should protect their user names and passwords. You should also consider changing your password and user name on a regular basis to ensure privacy.

Cookies
"Cookies" are small files of information stored on your computer's hard drive by your Internet browser. These "cookies" are used by Web sites to personalize and identify the user, if the user accepts the creation of a "cookie." SMS uses "cookies,” if permitted by the user, to store information such as your Shopping Cart status and your SMS ordering history. Permitting SMS to store "cookies" on your computer may save you time by not having to re-enter information manually each time you visit the site. If you do not wish SMS or other sites to place "cookies," you may turn them off by going to your Internet browser "options" setting and disabling the "cookies" function.

Consent
By logging on to SMS with your password and user name, you consent to the collection and use of this information by SMS. If there are changes to our privacy policy, we will post them on this page so that you will always be aware of what information we collect, how we collect it, and the circumstances under which we will disclose it.
